Do you want to restrict the author’s ability to post on your WordPress site to certain categories?

If you have a multi-author blog, you may want to limit the author’s ability to post to a specific category or sections of your website.

In this article, we’ll show you how to restrict WordPress writers to a specific category.

Why Restrict Authors to a Specific Category?

If you have multiple people writing for your WordPress blog, there is a chance that they will not select the appropriate category. You can limit the categories that writers can choose by restricting them to certain categories. You can also assign a poster to a single author in a single category.

This not only allows them to focus on their writing strengths, but it also prevents content from being miscategorized. Overall, the correct use of categories can be very beneficial to your website’s SEO rating.

Step by Step Instructions using Restricted Authors plugin:

The easiest way to do this is by using Restricted Authors plugin.

Go to plugins>>add new. And type in the plugins name to install and activate.

Once it’s activated, go to Users » All Users and  ‘Edit’ for the user profile you want to limit.

You’ll need to go all the way down to the bottom of their profile page. You will see a section where you can choose which categories you want to restrict the user’s ability to post to. You will be able to use whatever category you like in the first package.

In the field below, you can choose the default category for that specific user.

Then press the ‘Update User’ button.
