Default comment notification options in WordPress
WordPress does not, by default, offer the option to notify commentators.
It does, however, provide the choice to notify site administrators via email whenever a new comment is posted and if a remark is being held for moderation.
From your WordPress dashboard, select Settings » Discussion and then click the “Email me whenever” button to display these choices.
Only the site administrators get any of these alerts. WordPress also notifies the post author via email whenever a new comment is made.

Allow users to know when their comment is approved

Go to Settings and click “Comment Approved” if you wish to modify the approval message or deactivate the notice.
Once you’ve made your alterations, click the “Save” button at the bottom.
Allow users to subscribe to comments on WordPress
Additionally, commenters will not be alerted when someone responds.
They will need to manually revisit your website after leaving a comment to see whether anyone has responded.

Allow users to subscribe to only their comments on WordPress

If you operate a blog with several authors, those authors might wish to follow the conversations on your website. Each author could manually subscribe to comments if you have comment subscriptions enabled.
However, you can use the Better Notifications for WordPress plugin to specify which users should receive all comment notifications.
Once the plugin is activated, you can go to Notifications » Add New from your WordPress dashboard and give your notification a title at the top field.
Then, from the “Notification for” dropdown menu, choose “New Comment.” Then, enter the user roles to receive these notifications in the “Send To” area.
Even if email notifications for comments aren’t very sophisticated, it doesn’t make them any less significant. By turning on these notifications, you can make sure that comments are approved right away.
