5 Ways to Check Your Grammar in WordPress

by Jay | Updated on July 28th, 2022

One of the main complaints we’ve received from WordPress newcomers about the post editor is that it can’t spellcheck your content.

That’s why some users prefer to build their initial drafts using desktop apps like Microsoft Word or Google docs with multiple addons with simple spelling and grammar check options. Some users also rely on the spell check function of their browser.

However, using these tools ensures you can sometimes miss errors when editing WordPress posts.

We have a solution for those who want to produce error-proof papers. This post will show you how to check your WordPress grammar and spelling errors.

Why should you bother using proofreading software?

Bloggers and authors who write exclusively for the internet have little to do with the editorial support system of a publication like the New Yorker. They are also their reporters, proofreaders, and checkers of facts.

Until recently, WordPress bloggers who used the Jetpack plugin range have been aided in this challenge by After the Deadline, a grammar checker that could highlight bugs before the author hits the Publish button. But, unfortunately, with the introduction of Jetpack 7.3, it was withdrawn.

After the deadline has been removed, several alternatives are available. Most of them are unreliable, but there is a handful that can be trusted to let writers know where the embarrassing errors are.

Grammarly

Grammarly is the best-known and best-known grammar checker on the market today. It’s not flawless, but it can detect bugs that other checkers miss, and it’s available as a browser extension, a standalone app, and a smartphone app on iOS and Android. The browser plugin enables Grammarly to interact with text fields of WordPress and other web text fields.

One of Grammarly’s best qualities is how he explains why he’s flagged a mistake, rather than just putting a squiggly line under it and waiting for the writer to find out what’s wrong. But, of course, you can also correct any errors with a single click.

Grammarly is available as a free service with basic features and a premium service with more advanced grammar checks.

Hemingway

Hemingway is less a grammar checker than a dictator’s style checker. It highlights grammatical mistakes, but its primary objective is a simplification. It lets you know when your sentences have become complicated, and flag constructions are often found in bad writing.

Hemingway can be frustrating for authors who want to use the full capabilities of the English language. Its definition of consistent writing is a little too straightforward for many, and its principles are subjective. As a result, McPhee’s papers become a sea of red and yellow when they are added to the Hemingway app (as do the novels of Ernest Hemingway himself).

But if your sentences appear unnecessarily complex and difficult for readers to parse, Hemingway is worth checking out.

Ginger

The Ginger Software claims to be the world’s best grammar checker app, so we put it to the test. It turns out to be a great choice that works just like Grammarly. You start by installing the free extension of Ginger Chrome. After that, the WordPress function, or other word processors, is evaluated for grammatical, spelling, and meaning errors. You can also use Ginger in applications like Slack, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Gmail.

A grammar checker is the main tool you can find when correcting your writing, but Ginger also offers resources for translation, phrase rewriting, and dictionary searches. The only problem with Ginger is that the coveted grammar checker is not currently included in the free edition. The free Chrome extension has only translations and definitions but nothing else.

ProWriting Aid

Marketed as a Grammar Checker, Style Editor, and Writing Coach in one neat package, ProWritingAid is best known for its integrations. These include MS Outlook and Word, all major browsers, Open Office, Scrivener, and Google Docs. A good tool should be available everywhere you go, and ProWritingAid has done a fantastic job.

As far as reviewing, proofreading and editing are concerned, ProWritingAid is not too far behind its rivals. You get what you’re investing with ProWritingAid – good spellcheck, thesaurus, readability, and more. If you want to put the time into becoming a better writer, the plugin will be able to help with that, too. Prices start at $20 a month, and you can buy $299 for lifetime access.

Google Docs

Google recently introduced machine-learning-driven grammar checks to Google Docs. As you would expect from Google, the grammar checker focuses less on conventional grammar rules and more on examining how language is used in a wide body of written content.

Docs is not as tough a grader as Grammarly or Hemingway and often lets glaring errors like word repetitions pass through, but it’s a welcome addition to a site that many WordPress users rely on. Moreover, if you are a user of Google Docs and WordPress, you can find the Wordable service useful; it can export documents stored in Google Docs to a WordPress site, which is ultimately much better than copying and pasting.

Conclusion

Never, ever trust yourself to write a flawless, error-free copy with no need for editing on the first go. Proofreading and editing are where a good copy comes into being, which is very unfortunate because nature is against you on this one: you are never the best person to proofread and edit your content. But that doesn’t mean you’re not supposed to do it.
